Overview

Sangat Island Dive Resort occupies the southwestern cusp of Sangat Island in Coron Bay, Palawan. Opened in 1994, the resort is the only property on the island and the sole resort in the Philippines running entirely on solar power.

A 74 KW solar system powers everything — compressors, desalination plant, ice makers, and refrigeration. Diesel generators serve as backup only. Guests reach Sangat by a 20-minute boat transfer from Busuanga.

The resort sits on a 300-meter white sand beach backed by limestone cliffs. Eight WWII wrecks lie within 5–30 minutes by boat.

Accommodation & Facilities

All 22 rooms use native materials — hand-woven bamboo panels, split bamboo flooring, nipa palm roofing. Fan-cooled as standard, with three chalets offering AC.

  • Rooms: 22 total — 10 beachside chalets, 9 hillside chalets, 2 hilltop chalets, plus the tri-level Lambingan Villa with private beach. All with western-style bathroom, ceiling fan, 220V outlets, private terrace.
  • Facilities: Restaurant and two bars (main bar with pool table, beachfront Rock Bar), massage services, fitness area, souvenir shop. Starlink WiFi in common areas.
  • Dining: All meals included — buffet-style with seafood, meat, and vegetarian options. Afternoon snacks and tea/coffee station available throughout the day.

The Lambingan Villa is accessible by kayak or hanging bridge — a standalone unit with its own beach.

Dive Center & Operations

Sangat’s dive center was rebuilt in 2018 with dual BAUER K14 compressors and a Coltrisub nitrox membrane. The operation covers recreational through technical diving, with full wreck penetration support for certified divers.

  • Training: PADI and SDI courses from Bubblemaker and Discover Scuba through Divemaster. Wreck Diver and Deep Diver specialties. Technical diving certification available on-site.
  • Equipment: Full rental gear including computers. Nitrox membrane filling station. Tech gear: O2-clean 12L twin tanks, 6L stage bottles, O2-clean regulators, stainless tech wings, O2 booster pump, soda sorb for rebreathers.
  • Boats: Fleet of speedboats (not bancas) — groups of 4 or 8 divers. One larger boat for 16–25 divers. Most wreck sites 5–30 minutes from the beach.
  • Guides: Two certified instructors and one divemaster on staff. English-speaking. Up to four dives daily.

House reef is a protected marine sanctuary originating 1–3 meters from shore. Shore diving and kayak-entry dives available.

Daily Experience

Boats depart from the beachfront to wreck sites within minutes. Between dives, guests return to the beach bar or swim the house reef straight off the sand.

Surface intervals happen at the Rock Bar or along the 300-meter beach. Kayaks and paddleboards are available for non-dive hours. The island’s hot springs are reachable by kayak.

Evenings are off-grid quiet — no town access, no external guests. The restaurant serves dinner buffet-style, and the main bar’s pool table becomes the social center after dark.

Best For

Wreck divers who want the shortest boat rides to Coron Bay’s WWII sites. Tech divers benefit from on-site Nitrox blending and full penetration support gear.

Especially good for divers who value an off-grid, single-resort island with no day-trippers. Most appreciated by eco-conscious travelers and those who prefer disconnecting between dives.
